Overview

Report Builder is an application that allows users to create, configure, and export customised reports from supply chain data.

This project reimagined the legacy "Create Your Own" reporting tool, replacing an outdated experience with a streamlined, modern workflow.

As the sole UI/UX designer, I was responsible for the product's end-to-end design and prototyping, delivering a solution that simplifies report creation while maintaining the flexibility demanded by complex supply chain operations.

Report Builder is shipped and in active use.

The Problem

The legacy “Create Your Own” tool suffered from critical usability flaws, with unintuitive end-to-end user journeys across core workflows. Some of the pain points included:

Available fields were presented as a long, unsearchable scrollable list using technical dot-notation names.

High-priority actions like Preview and Save were buried inside a dropdown alongside the standalone "Apply" button. It is not obvious that the dropdown is an action selector, and the relationship between the dropdown and the Apply button is ambiguous.

Editable fields were not obviously interactive.

The “Add fields by expression” flow was obscure and difficult for users to navigate.

The Redesign

Searchable, categorised field list

The Available Fields panel now has a search box and category tabs. Users can either browse by category or type a keyword to filter the list instantly. Field names are written in plain English with spaces.

Separate, clearly labelled action buttons

Preview, Run, and Save as are now three distinct buttons in the top right, each performing their action in a single click.

The complex “Add fields by expression” flow is now structured, labelled and easier to grasp.

A clear visual hierarchy, streamlined user flows, and an interface that is consistent with EV Cargo’s design system
